Michael Francis Jacobson (Jake) was born February 8, 1949 to Winthrop and Edna. Michael was the fifth of seven children. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nazira Fahmy Jacobson, and two daughters Tiffany Jacobson (married to Adam Bedell) and Erica Jacobson-Caufield (married to Christopher Caufield), grandchildren: Audrey Ricciardi, Nathaniel Bedell, and Wednesday Caufield, siblings and their spouses: James and Susan Jacobson, Rudolph and Eileen Valentino, Anthony and Elizabeth Emma, Peter Jacobson, Vito and Dorothy DeGennaro, and Robert Jacobson, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Born and raised in Hoboken, Michael attended Saints Peter and Paul School for grade school, Hoboken High School (1964-1968), and Jersey City State College, where he studied education and distinguished himself as a standout defensive back for their football team.
Throughout his 32 years of teaching in the Hoboken Public Schools, 25 of which he also served as Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach for the Redwings, Jake strove to address academics as well as character building both in the classroom and on the football field. His passion for the game and unrelenting drive made him a standout athlete and coach, earning him induction into the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights Athletic Hall of Fame (1996) and the Hoboken High School Athletic Hall of Fame (2008). He retired in 2010, after which point he served Saint Peter’s University as an Adjunct Professor of Education.
Michael and Nazira split their time between their homes in Weehawken and Long Beach Island. They enjoyed lazy days at the Ship Bottom Bay Beach, long bicycle rides, and scenic walks through Island State Park. Michael, devoted husband and father, doting grandfather (Pops), loving brother, and loyal friend will be remembered and missed.
