Walter graduated Maine Maritime Academy in 1956. He served in the US Navy, stationed in Hawaii. Upon discharge, he worked at Electric Boat and Northeast Utilities and later really enjoyed transporting school children.
He loved going out for lunch with friends, golfing, reading history, especially about the Civil War and always enjoyed discussing it. He was an active member of the Montville Union Baptist Church and was always ready to help anyone in need.
Walter enjoyed his gardening, mowing his and his neighbor’s yards and fields and making “it look like a golf course.”
He leaves behind a daughter Gretchen Gordon and her husband Robin, and grandson Peter. He is also survived by his beloved wife Maxine, 3 stepchildren and their spouses, 9 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great granddaughters.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank their hospice team and also all of the first responders, who answered the call many times over the years. God Bless you all. Donations may be made in Walter’s honor to Center for Hospice Care of Southeastern CT or to any of the Montville fire departments.
