Shirley Marie McCulley

Shirley Marie McCulley, 91, passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2023 at New London Rehab and Care in Waterford.

Born in New London, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice Aston

Shirley was a 1950 graduate of NFA and had worked as a bookkeeper at H.A. Bruckner’s in Norwich for many years. She was a resident of Uncasville for almost seventy years.

In 1951, Shirley married George T. McCulley. They celebrated over forty years of marriage before his death in 1992. They loved to travel and spent many winters in Homestead Florida.

Shirley was an active member of St. John’s Church, the Montville Senior Chorus, and taught line dancing at the Senior Center for many years.

She leaves several nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by her nieces, Diana McCulley de la Reyes, Eileen Plikus Emery, and Karen Plikus Abercrombie. She also leaves her conservator Marion Lunden and life-long friend Maureen Rice.

Shirley had many wonderful friends and neighbors who were so supportive of her.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Alzheimers Unit at New London Rehab for their care of Shirley during this past year.

Visitation will be Thursday Dec. 14, 2023 from 10am-11am at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen 53 Norwich New London Tpke. Uncasville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Johns Church Uncasville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Uncasville.

Donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to St. John’s Church in Uncasville.
