Sandra L. Scarpa

Sandra Lee ( Hess) Scarpa, age 80, of Preston, Ct, passed away at Autumn Lake Healthcare in New Britain on December 13, 2018. She was born on November 14, 1938, to the late Jacob and Dorothy (Statham) Hess. Her husband of 40 years and the love of her life, Gregory F. Scarpa passed away in 1997.

Sandra had spent the previous 9 years residing in Florida before returning to Connecticut to be with family in August. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society and active in many community events. She had a very creative talent, mastering ceramics and professional wedding cakes. Her greatest passion was Christmas time which was evident in her decorations and extensive Christmas village. Sandra will mostly be remembered for her love of family and friends.

Sandra is survived by two sons: Gregory F. Scarpa Jr and his wife, Linda, of Preston, and Stephen Scarpa of Oakdale, and her daughter, Cara Crawshaw of Norwich. Grandchildren include Ryan Scarpa and his wife, Cassandra, Alec Scarpa, Brett Scarpa and Nicolette Scarpa. Great grandchildren; Charlee, Ryan Jr., and Liam. She leaves behind her brother Alfred Hess of Florida, sister Emily Levi of Tennessee, and her sister Faith Mattern of Florida. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members and close friends. She is predeceased by siblings William Hess, Thomas Hess, Barbara Cain, and Lillian Hawes.

Family and friends may visit Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich New London Tpke. On Sat, December 29th at 9:00 am, service to follow at 10:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton. A Celebration of life will be at the V.F.W. in the Norwich Industrial Park.
