He was born in Montpelier Vermont on August 3, 1940, son of the late Leo Wilson and Julia Wilson. He was a graduate of Bell Detroit Diesel. He later married Joyce (Bedell) Wilson and was married for 16 years. When they divorced, he married Barbara “Bobsy" Mcgoff on May 11th 1981 who predeceased him.
He leaves behind a son David Wilson and his wife Tracey and daughter Debbie Watson and husband Scott all from the town of Griswold, CT, step son Robert Mcgoff, two step daughters Bambi Mcgoff and Wendy Hacker, thirteen grandchildren, Heather Watson, Kristina Watson, Garrett Wilson, Cooper Wilson, Jenny Stone McMahon, Tiffannee Kelsey McGoff, Kelsey McGoff LaBelle, Erin Mcgoff, Brendan Mcgoff, Kyleigh Hacker, Kenneth Hacker and pre deceased by James Stone, Jr., and six great grandchildren and also leaves cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was loved by all for his kindness and generosity. His unique ability to sense when someone needed something even without them asking was a gift and he'd be right there at the ready to help in any way. Richie took pride in the fact that he could quite literally fix anything and loved the challenge.
He loved cars and over the years he owned his own dealership. He was on pit crews at the races and even raced at the Colchester drag strip. A shrewd negotiator, he believed that a handshake was the contractual bond to seal the deal. Everyone knew Richie was always true to his word.
He also loved the water. He owned Wilson’s Marina on the Thames River in Montville, Ct for 20 plus years. He'd spend time at the marina swinging in the hammock on the hot summer days offering anyone who stopped by an ice cold soda.
Richie had a sparkle in his eyes with a smile that would light up a room. His kind, thoughtful, strong generous personality made a difference in every life he touched.
Spending time with family is what he lived for most, his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlight of his life.
