Paul Weston Sturges, G’Michmikigwon “He who strengthens thee," cherished husband, devoted father and esteemed grandfather passed away on May 25th 2024 at the age of 71. Born on September 9th 1952 to Chief Ralph Sturges and Georgiana Ida Page Sturges in New London, CT.
He lived in New London until designing and building his dream home for his family in East Lyme, CT in 1987. Paul’s journey was one of love, dedication and service to his family, community and the Mohegan tribe. His legacy leaves behind an everlasting impression on many people. He is survived by his beloved wife JoAnne Sturges, his children Paula Sturges Smith (Kyle) and Jesse Sturges (Alisha) and his four adoring grandchildren Tyler, Joey, Valarie and Naomie Sturges. Paul was deeply involved with the Mohegan Tribe and served on the Tribal Council during federal recognition, organizing wigwam festivals, and was Chairman of the Board of Education. Paul took immense pride in his work particularly during his tenure at Electric Boat and as Senior Director of Regulation and Compliance for the Mohegan Tribe.
Paul’s commitment to community extended to his passion for baseball where he supported local leagues from fundraising to coaching nurturing the love of the game in countless young athletes. Additionally he served on the board for the Connecticut Cancer Foundation. Paul’s legacy is one of service, leadership and compassion. He will be deeply missed as the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable life. In this time of mourning, let us remember Paul’s spirit and the profound impact he made on his community and beyond.
A calling hours/visitation for Paul will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville, CT. Following the calling hours/visitation will be a graveside funeral service at 12:30PM at Fort Shantok Burial Grounds, 340 Massapeag Side Road, Uncasville, CT.
