Marilyn Alice Swan, age 89, of Uncasville CT, passed away at her home on November 3, 2023, surrounded by family, and went to be with the Lord. Born in 1934, Marilyn was the daughter of Ken and Alice Avery (Reining) of Valley Cottage, New York. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband Frank E. Swan Sr., and her brothers Larry and Bob (Avery). She is survived by her son Frank Jr. and his wife Dianne, and her daughter Missy and her husband Ed (Andrejczyk). Marilyn was grandmother to seven wonderful children (Alexis, Logan, Rose, Chris, William, Derek, and Luciana). Marilyn was like a second mom to many others.
Marilyn grew up in Upstate NY, where she helped in the family restaurant business, and enjoyed raising rat terriers with the help of her father. From there Marilyn spent time in San Diego, California, where she enjoyed roller skating and took classes, including ceramics. She eventually returned to the east coast, settling down in Uncasville CT, where she met her husband Frank Swan Sr. When her children were young, she ran a poodle grooming business in her home. She worked as a bank teller, as well as for Electric Boat, and United Nuclear. She cherished her two children, and vastly enjoyed her dogs, especially her Yorkshire Terriers, which brought her great pleasure and comfort over the years. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
Marilyn enjoyed music, art, and shopping. She loved to decorate her home for the Holidays, especially at Christmas time, and expressed her love for others through showering gifts on them. Marilyn was also gifted with artificial flower arrangements, making beautiful decorations for friends and family. Marilyn also loved her home with a view of the Thames River. Thanks to Shawn for meticulously maintaining her property for 20 plus years and being like another son to her during those years.
The family would like to thank all the care givers who ministered to Marilyn over the years. Special thanks to her daughter in law Dianne, who took such great care of her for the last year of mom’s life when she needed extra care and became a live in caregiver. In addition, thanks to Jen, a care giver for five years, who bestowed great companionship and meant a lot to her. A memorial/celebration of life will be held at a future date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.montvillefuneralhome.com for the Swan family.
