George W. Keller Jr. of Uncasville, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on September 23, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and strength. He was the beloved husband of Patsy Keller for 56 wonderful years, and together they built a life rich with family and cherished memories.
Born to Irene and George Keller Sr. in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, George spent his early years exploring the outdoors. In their 20s, he and Patsy embarked on a cross-country camping adventure, eventually settling in coastal California, where they lived for a number of years. They later returned to Connecticut, finally making their home in Uncasville, where they raised their two daughters.
A skilled machinist and proud veteran of the United States Army, George took great pride in both his work and home life. He was a long-time member of the American Legion. An avid lover of the outdoors, he could often be found taking walks—first with his daughters and later with his beloved pup, Zoey. His passion for cars and motorcycles led him to collect and restore classic vehicles, sometimes tinkering late into the night. George also found joy in camping and meticulously caring for his lawn, which resembled a PGA golf course in its perfection. He had a deep appreciation for music, especially Johnny Cash. He could be frequently found humming a tune or enjoying his favorite songs, whether working in the yard or relaxing at home. A devoted pet owner, he shared many happy moments with his furry companions, particularly Zoey, who held a special place in his heart.
He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, in-laws Betty and Charles Ashwell, sister Denise Hastedt (Rick), sister and brother-in-law MaryKaye and Mick Mercier, brother-in-law Jay Small (Anne), brother-in-law Kelly Laphen (Debbie), sister-in-law Ellen Ott (Barry), brother-in-law Garth Swanson (Freida), sister-in-law Janice Laphen (Morris), and many more loving family members who have gone before.
George leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Patsy Keller; daughters Jennifer Keller of Georgia and Julie Keller Cole of North Carolina; sister Anne Small; sister Claire Clay (Al); brother-in-law Morris Laphen (Marge); brother-in-law Nick Laphen (Kathy); sister-in-law Toni Wilson; sister-in-law Freida Swanson; and brother-in-law Barry Ott. He is also survived by his two cherished grandsons, Jackson and Ben Cole, along with an extended family that will miss him dearly.
Generous and straightforward, George's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His enduring legacy of love and zest for life will continue to inspire those who carry on his memory.
In keeping with George's wishes, there will be no formal services. Instead, a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
