Gene was born in New London on July 28, 1934 to the late Stephen and Mary (Dufrat) Kuzia. He served honorably in the National Guard and on July 4, 1955 married his beloved wife Barbara (Lasiewicz) who predeceased him in 2015.
Gene worked as a Machinist at United Nuclear, Electric Boat and Federal Paperboard, and as a Commercial Lobsterman throughout his life. Even when not professionally fishing, he seemingly always had a line in the water and could never get in enough fishing to quell his love of the sport. He also enjoyed gardening, his dogs especially Laila, and oil painting seascapes with exquisite attention to detail.
He is survived by his children; James Kuzia, Timothy Kuzia, and Pamela Gonzalez, a brother; Stephen Kuzia, sisters; Bernadette Lynn, Sophia Bird, Patricia Konopka and Kathleen Brooks, two grandchildren; Graham Kuzia and Christian Gonzalez, two great-grandchildren; Elliott Kuzia and Nora Kuzia along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15th from 5pm to 7pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville, CT. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 16th at 11am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 22 Maple Av., Uncasville, CT. Burial is private at the convenience of the family.
