Oakdale – David O. Radford, passed away on August 21, 2011 at Hartford Hospital at the age of 62. He was born in El Paso, TX on February 23, 1949 to the late Orville and Isabel (Estrada) Radford. He married Sandra (McCormack) Radford on January 1, 1971 in Rye, NY.
Dave served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War where he was honorably discharged after receiving a medal for saving the lives of many in a civilian plane crash in 1976. After his discharge he became employed as a Block Operator for Amtrak for over 30 years where he remained up until his death. He is a lifetime member of the VFW in Plainfield and a member of the Masonic Lodge in New London.
Besides his loving wife Sandi Radford of Oakdale, he is survived by a son David Radford II and his wife Stacy of Uncasville, a daughter Tonja Hillyer and her husband Matthew of Ayer, MA, a step-daughter Sherri Sheetz and her husband Garry of NY, a brother Juan Martinez and his wife Micah of Moreno Valley, CA, and a brother Robert Martinez of Bakersfield, CA. He also leaves behind grandchildren Rebecca and Tyler Radford, Bray Turner, Trevor and Destinee Hillyer, Jessica, Samantha and Dustun Sheetz, great-grandchildren Jezamine and Wyatt Hillyer, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a daughter Anna Wanita and a sister Rosa Sanchez.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in memory of Dave to the Oakdale Fire Department or the Montville Police Union.
