After a long and courageous struggle against Lewy Body Dementia, David Cyrus Church, 73, passed away December 5, 2016 at home with his family by his side. He was born December 27, 1942 in Norwood, MA to Cyrus C. and Esther (Chamberlain) Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years Carol (Cayward) Church and two sons Dave (Julie) of Griswold, CT and Jedidiah (Jaclyn) Church and grandchildren, Isabella and Zachary of Lakeland, FL. David was a loving husband, thoughtful brother, and caring father and grandfather.
Also left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Elizabeth Carriero of Southport, ME and Sylvia Cook of Walpole, MA and many nieces and nephews. The disease was cruel but David was a fighter. With the love, compassion, and care of his wife, family and friends, especially his dear lifelong friend George Willard, who traveled from his home in Temple, NH every Friday for nearly a year, he was able to enjoy the comforts of home. The family wishes to thank all caregivers who provided 24/7 support. This wonderful team became part of the family.
David received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire at Durham. Following his degree completion, he was employed by General Dynamics/Electric Boat (EB) in Groton, CT as Engineering Supervisor in project and research development. He took great pride in his work in hull design for next-generation attack submarines. He retired from EB in 2006 after 40 years of service.
David’s life was full of adventure and time spent in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and proud to be a life-time member of the NRA. David enjoyed his time at his rustic hunting camp in Temple, NH, and time spent on Mopang Lake, ME water-skiing, snowmobiling and being with family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday Dec. 10, 2016 from 1:00-3:00pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen Rte 32 Uncasville followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date in Temple New Hampshire.
