Ennis- Charles Raymond Ennis Jr. 73, of Uncasville died Nov. 14, 2017 at Backus Hospital. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born Sept. 15, 1944 in Norwich, Charlie was the son of the late Emma Hunter. He is survived by his wife Judy Ennis, his son Chuck Ennis of Dayville, and his daughter Lisa of Danielson along with their significant others Nancy LaVallee, and Randy White. He also leaves his grandchildren, Courtney and Brandon, and his brother Wayne Hunter, Charlie was raised in New London where he attended local schools. He worked as a pipefitter at Electric Boat and on various construction projects. He joined Amtrak in 1974 as an iron worker and later became a bridge inspector retiring in 2004 after 30 years of service. Charlie was a sports enthusiast at an early age, playing Little League baseball as well as basketball and football. In later years he managed and coached Little League as well as Babe Ruth teams. He was an avid golfer and played in two leagues. He would ofter say “He loved the game, but the game didn’t like him.” Retirement got the best of him and found himself driving the Montville Senior Citizens van. He also had the great pleasure of playing Santa Claus for the Senior Center. Above all, Charlie’s family cane first. His influence of honesty is memorable always telling family to do the “right thing.” No room for white lies in Charlie’s world. He was a 30 year member of the Montville Polish Club. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Visitation will be Friday Nov. 17, 2017 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen Rte. 32 Uncasville. A Funeral Service will be held Friday Nov. 17, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
