A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Rose Lawn Cemetery at 11:00am with Phil Hancock officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Left to grieve his passing are his wife of 69 years, Sybil Joanne Wheeler, daughter, Melanie Starkey of Tyler; son, Timothy E. Wheeler of Carrollton and grandsons, Brandon Wheeler, Samuel Wheeler and Noah Reed, all of Tyler; and one brother, Edward Wheeler and his wife, Winifred of Harrison, Tennessee. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and one beloved sister-in-law, Denise Dale of Beaumont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and his first born, William H. Wheeler, Jr., in 1949.
Howard was baptized in July, 1947 and remained a faithful Christian until his death. He was a member of Broadway Church of Christ, deeply devoted to his family and his beloved wife.
Howard was educated in schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee and for many years was an agent for several insurance agencies and self-employed until his heath failed.
He was a man of integrity, loyalty, humor and helpfulness to others.
The family would like to thank the staff at Briarcliff Health Center and especially caregiver, Mary Gee for their care and helpfulness.
Howard’s favorite scriptures were:
Revelation 14:13 NIV: “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”
2 Corinthians 5:8 NIV: “…We would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.”
