He was born on April 4, 1928, in Medford, Massachusetts to Ruth Violet Hollsten of Chicago, Illinois and William Tait of Dumfries, Scotland. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Jones.
He joined the Navy at 18, from 1946 to 1966, retiring as an Electronics Technician E9 Master Chief. He then went to work for Xerox for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He began making plans to travel the country in an RV. In 1996 those dreams became a reality for 15 years, finally settling down in Ben Wheeler, Texas. They continued traveling with a trip to Scotland, Australia, and many cruises.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Wilma Tait of Ben Wheeler, TX: daughters Denise Hayes of Gardner, KS: Vicki and Dennis Ogg of Olathe, KS; Billie and Tim Alsup of Gardner, KS. Grandchildren John Long, Cynda Long, David Ogg, Derek Ogg, Deanna Keeney, Dustin Schwab and Logan Schwab, plus 7 great grandchildren.
He loved being a father and husband. He was always patient, kind and willing to help whenever needed. He had a great sense of humor and was ready with a smile. He was an avid collector of trains, loved traveling, listening to classical and big band style music, and he loved to read. He could always be found with a book in his pocket or in his hand wherever he went.
He will be missed all his friends and family!
