We announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) Gordan Law on October 21, 2023, in Tyler, TX after 80 full years of life. Born in Lowville, New York, he had fond memories of his parents, Gordan and Ethel (Matteson) Law, playing in the school band and being on the ski team. Later in life Bill was a volunteer firefighter, police officer, electrical engineer, and retired as a Navy Chief after over 21 years of service. Bill ended his naval career on the USS John F Kennedy serving in Operation Desert Storm. Following his navel tenure, he pursued further education to become a radiology technician.
A man deeply rooted in faith, Bill humbly served as an usher in his church and attained the esteemed Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of the Columbus. He was also an active member of their color guard. Additionally, he served as a chaplain at the American legion, post 12, for many years.
He was an avid sports fan, lover of history and politics, and proud veteran. His spirit of giving extended beyond his military service, as he dedicated countless hours to volunteering and philanthropy. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 41 years, great father, and grandfather; always sharing his knowledge and stories, teaching us till the end. He fought cancer with vigor and dignity and will be missed immensely.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jilda Law; sister, Margaret Duncan; children Evelyn Surace and Patricia Brown; stepchildren, Anita Eads Larsen, Dave Stevens, Don Dykhoff, Mike Dykhoff, and Mark Dykhoff; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and Esme, his beloved cat.
