August 3, 1956 – February 20, 2024
Sherry was born in Tyler, Texas on August 3, 1956, and passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 20, at her home in Yorktown, Virginia at the age of 67.
Sherry was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Jo Ann Ray, and her brother, Michael. She is survived by her husband, Andy Smothermon, her son David Trenton Tant, his wife Tara and their children and grandchildren, and her brother Douglas Bryan Ray and his daughter Jennifer Le Ann Lee.
Andy and Sherry were married on July 2, 1982, and enjoyed over 41 years of marriage as best friends as well as husband and wife. Their devotion to each other is a continuing inspiration to all who know them.
Throughout their marriage, they lived in Texas, North Dakota, Germany, Florida, Colorado, California, and Virginia, moving as required by Andy’s service with the United States Air Force. Wherever they were, Sherry transformed each house into a home with her wonderful eye for beauty, her talent for decorating, and her gracious hospitality.
Sherry was a caring and giving parent, firm when she needed to be. Over the years, Andy and Sherry also welcomed three German Shepherds into their home. Stevie Ray was first, followed by Jackson and now Bepaw, all of them becoming cherished parts of the family.
Sherry was the true definition of a good friend. With those lucky enough to be called so, she would always tell you what you needed to hear, not always what you wanted to hear. To be her friend was to feel like family.
