A Mass of Christian burial for Sheila King, 80 of Tyler, Texas will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler with the Very Rev. Anthony McLaughlin JCD officiating. Burial is in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mrs. King passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in Tyler, Texas.
She was born on March 6, 1933 in Decatur, Illinois to the late Louis and Dorothy Dwyer Downing. She was married to Stephen King on January 16, 1960 and they have been married 52 years, 6 months and 8 days. She was a registered nurse for 45 years and retired from Trinity Mother Frances in 2000. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Altar Society. She served as a docent for the Tyler Museum of Art and loved to play mah jongg, chicken foot. She was an avid reader and loved her family greatly.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ted Downing and cousin, Evelyn Geis.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen King; daughter Patricia Freeman and husband Tom, granddaughters, Natalie Main, Chelse Crossfield and Caitlin Main; great grandson, Kooper Crossfield; nephews, Michael, Daniel and Christopher Jackson and Aunt Kathryn Jackson.
A rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., Friday with a visitation following until 8:00 p.m. at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
