Rose met Manuel, and in March of 1971 they began life together. By 1978 they had moved from San Antonio to Tyler and added six children to their family. Rose loved her family. She and Manuel raised their children to value each other and their family above all other things. Although she was considered tiny in stature, she had a will of iron. If she decided things should be a certain way, it was best for everyone to just get in line with her. She was determined and always took care that the people she loved were treated fairly by those that they came into contact with. Rose did not see her children as perfect, but she would ALWAYS be the first to defend them and place herself in front of any door that might be slammed before them. Her grandchildren on the other hand she did perceive them as perfect and loved them with all of her heart. To the very end as Rose fought her illness with all that she had, she was fighting for her children and grandchildren and making sure that they all knew how much they were loved.
Outside of the home Rose worked hard to help Manuel provide for their family. She worked in the service industry and was a supervisor at a local sewing factory. She always said to her children, it didn’t matter what the job was or where they started, they could always work hard and move up and do better. That is what Rose believed and it is also what she did. At every job she ever worked she would find herself in a leadership position. She also worked with Manuel to minister and help the Hispanic community in Tyler. They worked and taught adult ESL classes and always pointed others to the Cross.
