Roger Pat Maddox 89 of Tyler, was born June 23, 1934 in Eden Texas to the late Leonard Allen (Ponti) Maddox and Annie Lee (MaAnn) Patton Maddox. His siblings were (Mary Lee Maddox, Leonard Allen Maddox, Jr., Mona Sue Maddox (Click), Ruby Clair (Bobby) Maddox (Lockett), Ina King Maddox (Nesbitt)… All deceased.
Roger Pat’s father nicknamed him Tracks. He played high school football where he developed a lifelong love of football. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and as he aged it became obvious that he was very proud to have served our Country. He met and married Annette in 1959 and it was love at first sight and he continued loving her for 64 years. He started Maddox Pest control in 1961 and served on the Structural Pest Control Board of Texas.
After he went to his first Dallas Cowboy football game, he quite possibly became their biggest fan. His son, Todd Patton Maddox was born May 2, 1966 and is married to Marlene Maddox. Roger Pat was a hands on father who actively participated in coaching little league teams. He included the outdoors as a father/son/family activity. He was a huge sports fan and in particular all Dallas area sports teams, however he was a terrible golfer.
His son Todd says about his father. My dad led an amazing life which suited him as he was an amazing person. He was passionately devoted to my mom from the moment he met her and that devotion was extended to me from the day I was born. He, along with my mom, worked tirelessly to provide for his family and the result was a successful pest control business that he owned and operated from 1961-1995 until his retirement. After retirement he continued enjoying his passions of family, fishing, and became increasingly involved with his relationship with God. He and my mother became members of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, which became a passion for them. He lived a wonderful life full of amazing friends and family. My dad is my hero.
A service to celebrate Roger Pat Maddox will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
