Patsy N. Young passed away December16, 2010 at her home in Sugar Land, Texas, surrounded by her family. Born in Ft. Worth on August 23, 1927, Patsy was the only daughter of Ernest and Ethel Morris. A long time resident of Tyler, Patsy moved to Sugar Land six years ago to be nearer to her daughter and son-in–law. However, in her heart, she was always a Tyler resident.
Patsy graduated from Handley High School and attended Baylor University and Arlington State College. She married Ben Jackson Young, on March 2, 1950. Early in their marriage, they moved from the Fort Worth area to Midland and then to Calgary, Alberta, Canada before returning to Texas and eventually Tyler in 1957.
Tyler was home to Patsy for the next 47 years where she became involved in civic, school, and church activities. Most of her interests and activities involved her children, Deborah, Rodger, and Rebecca. She was actively involved in the Parent Teacher Association in her children’s schools often serving as president of the school organization. She likewise served as president of the East Texas District PTA. She was a Camp Fire Girls Leader for her daughter Rebecca and served on the Smith County Board of Directors for many years. Patsy’s greatest love was for God and her Savior, and she was actively involved in their church. She taught Sunday School and was involved in Ladies Bible Class for many years.
Patsy touched the lives of many people during her life. Her kindness and concern for others characterized her life, and she was always looking for ways to help those around her. Even during her last few months at the Atria Assisted Living in Sugar Land, she touched the lives of those around her. Those who knew her loved her and were blessed by her friendship.
