Nellie was born March 7, 1923 to M.F. and Edith Chamberlain. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald and her two sons Tom and John L.
She grew up on a farm in the Joy Community halfway between Kilgore and Gladewater. Her family was very active in the community and the Joy Baptist Church. Her father was a deacon and saw that everyone was getting ready for Sunday school and Church. Her mother didn't always get to go, she was usually preparing lunch for thirty or more, including the pastor and his family, two married sisters and their families, and our large family. They always had visitors even during week end for "supper" they just showed up uninvited. They knew there would always be pleanty to eat. Her mother cooked in a big iron pot on a wood stove. Nobody had telephones, Running water or electricity.
Nellie attended a country school until 6th grade then went to Sabine for Jr High and High School. She married and after rearing her two sons, she went to college and received a BS masters and continued to get certified as an Educational Diagnostician. She worked in this position for 18 years, retired then continued working in schools for seven more years.
She supported missionaries around the world. She loved to cook and make homemade ice cream for her family and friends. She joined a 42 club which she enjoyed in her last years before she started moving around. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and finally six Great-Great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the Piano for churches and nursing homes.
Funeral Services will be 2:00PM Sunday at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home burial in Friendship Cemetery.
