On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, Murl passed away at Chandler Nursing Center after many years of battling pulmonary fibrosis.
Murl was born on June 22, 1927 in a little blue house a few miles south of Chandler. She was the youngest of five children and the only daughter of Minor and Suda Beard.
Murl attended school in Chandler and Brownsboro. In July of 1946, Murl married John Billy Stokes of Brownsboro. They were blessed with over 65 years of marriage before Billy passed away on December 16, 2011. Throughout their years together, Murl kept their bags packed as they traveled for hunting trips, business meetings and sightseeing. In the last few years as health issues limited them, they faithfully watched their Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers and family knew not to visit or call during the game.
Mrs. Stokes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Sue Quinn and her husband, Larry of Longview and Brenda Atkeisson and her husband, Buster of Kerens. Murl was very proud of her four grandsons, David Atkeisson and his wife, Leah of Kerens, Caleb Quinn of Longview, Jeremy Quinn and his wife Tonia of Longview and Brad Atkeisson and his wife, Michelle of Fairfield; great grandchildren, Lauren and Katie Atkeisson of Kerens, Kennedy Quinn of Longview, McKenzie and Cole Beddingfield of Fairfield; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Zeffie Beard of Chandler, sisters-in-law, Myrtis Lauterbach and Dell Avant of Las Cruces, New Mexico and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Tom, Pat and Bruce Beard.
The family wishes to recognize the nurses and doctors of Trinity Mother Francis Hospital for their compassionate care during many hospital stays the last six years. Also to recognize the staff of Chandler Nursing Center for their loving and kind care.
Memorials may be made to Kerens First Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
