Mary Alice Pickett, 83, went to her heavenly home Thursday November 24, 2022. Born November 10, 1939 to parents Orval Ray and Mary Mildred Thomas. As a musician her love for playing the piano started at the young age of 12, as church accompanist for Hillcrest Baptist Church Tyler, TX. As a young woman she accompanied and sang alto for The Gospel Tones who traveled with Glen Miller to many revivals and other churches in South Texas and Louisiana.
After marrying the love of her life, Jimmie Don Pickett, she began her final church accompaniment career at Calvary Broadway and Bow, as the church grew and moved to south Tyler as Calvary South. Now known as Colonial Hills Baptist Church here in Tyler. During this time she also taught many students out of her home. Mary retired after serving the Lord for 58 years.
Mary is preceded in death by loving husband Jimmie Don Pickett, her parents, stepfathers: Jappie Holmes and Sam Moncrief and sister Delores Bryant. Survivors are her son Donald Pickett, daughter Susan Thompson, and husband Charles. Two grandsons Matthew and Aaron Thompson and other family.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at Tyler memorial Funeral Home with Burial in Tyler Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
