Mary Ellen "Mamie" (Holmes) Hoppe, 91, of Winona, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Tyler. Mrs. Hoppe, a homemaker, was born on December 3, 1925 in Chanute, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in California. Following high school, she attended beauty school in San Francisco. While in beauty school, she met and later married, Milton R. Hoppe in Vallejo, CA. They made their home in Fort Worth, then moved to Tyler, shortly there after; settling in Starrville, in 1947. Milton preceded her in death in 1991.
Mom (Mamie) was always respectful of everyone...she truly cared and had empathy for all. That was evident by her volunteer work in the community...maybe it was doing hair at the nursing home in Gladewater or making heart pillows, asthma bags and Christmas gift bags for patients at UT Health Center. She was a volunteer beautician and care-giver at UT Health Center for over 40 years, helping to boost the morale and self-esteem of patients.
She was a member of the Oakdale Church of Christ for over 65 years. More than anything else, her smile and laughter will be missed.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bob and is survived by her children; Warren , and his wife, Judy Hoppe of Burleson; Robert, and his wife, Becky Hoppe of Georgetown; daughter, Karen, and her husband, Ramon Farmer of Austin; as well as 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday; followed by services at 3:00 PM at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home with a reception to follow. Private interment will be at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701.
