Mrs. Gardner was born, Mary Evelyn Vick, in New Waverly, TX on October 29, 1941, to Willie and Evie Vick. Evelyn attended New Waverly High School where she played softball and led the band and bugle corps as head majorette. She graduated as Valedictorian in 1959 and later received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston in Huntsville. Evelyn married Marvin Gardner March 16,1962 in Conroe, Texas. Marvin surrendered to preach in 1963 and Evelyn was a faithful preacher’s wife for 54 years. They were blessed with six children, thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren which kept her a very busy homemaker. In 1975 she was employed at Crème Lure as an accountant, and then bookkeeper with Arms, Jeffers and Company. She continued to work as a bookkeeper at various locations. Evelyn finished her career of 18 years as the primary bookkeeper for Manziel Interests. The family greatly appreciates the love and care shared by the Manziel family throughout those years.
Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin, great grandson Parker Andrews, and sister Marie Roark. She is survived by her 6 children. Son Wendell Gardner, wife Beth, with two children James and John. Daughter Jackie Glasscock, husband James, with three children Jeremy, Justin with wife Nicole, with three children Peyton, Kason and Karson, Jessica Andrews and husband Chaffin with son Callen. Son Darrell Gardner, wife Karen, with two children Jacob and fiancé Alicia, Katie with daughter Caroline and fiancé Jordan. Son Clint Gardner, wife Renee, with two children CJ and JP. Son Vic Gardner. Son Kenneth Gardner, wife Debbie, with four children Emily Ashmore with husband Craig, Kenzie, Baije, Allison, and Ryan. Mrs. Gardner is also survived by her brother Willie Vick, Jr and wife Linda, and sisters-in-law Barbara Allen and Patricia Gardner. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and their families.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at The Center at Grande for the care they provided for Mrs. Gardner and the Nursing staff at Christus Mother Frances Hospital Cancer floor.
Visitation is scheduled to be held at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler, TX Friday July 21st, 2023 from 5-7PM. Funeral services are scheduled to be held at Sam Houston Memorial Park Funeral Home in Huntsville, TX Saturday July 22nd, 2023 beginning with visitation at 9AM, funeral at 10AM, and burial to follow immediately after at East Sandy Cemetery in New Waverly, TX.
