LaVina Catherine Fields was born in Vicksburg Mississippi on January 13th, 1933. She grew up the middle child and only daughter of Paul and Cassie Fields.
LaVina met and married William E. (Bill) Moore Jr. the great love of her life, on January 21, 1949. Their love for each other and their life together created the legacy that has been left behind today.
LaVina followed Bill throughout his 27 year military career, in multiple countries and states, and countless tours of duty. She created a home wherever they lived, supporting Bill fully and serving as a proud military wife and mother.
LaVina lived many places, Mississippi, Arkansas, Massachusetts, New York, and her favorite Tyler, Texas. While living in Tyler she was very involved in the community as a church member, helping with the youth group and various ministries as well as being an active member of the home school community. LaVina was a proud founding member of TACHE, a home school group which still serves the community to this day. She served as the president of the Republican Women’s Group and stayed involved in local politics throughout her life.
While LaVina had many passions, there were 2 that she fully devoted her life to. First and always foremost was Jesus Christ. She accepted Him as her savior at age 11 and the rest of her life was spent growing in her relationship with Him. Her love for Him was evident to anyone who had the joy of knowing her. She truly believed in loving others the way that Jesus loved her, and there are so many who could testify to that. Her second passion was her family. Her love for her family came from her love for Jesus, allowing her to love unconditionally as she knew He would. She had this solid foundation on which to raise her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Known to most as Sweetmama, she truly lived up to that name. Because as she was passionate about Jesus, she was also passionate about serving other people. She took very seriously the call of Matthew 28:19 and always said that her mission field was her own backyard. Because of that she housed, clothed and fed not only her family, but many others who would become family throughout the years.
LaVina is remembered by her children Laura Hinds, Paula Ray, Steven Moore, Stacy Moore, Alicia Ardoin, Bill Moore, Elizabeth Moore, Nicole Harris, Liberty Jackson, her many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as so many other close family and friends.
She is reunited with her husband Bill Moore, her mother and father, and other family members and dear friends who have gone on before her.
