John Josiah Shooter, 84, of The Woodlands, took his final journey on earth on Sept. 11, 2014. Heaven now has another angel. John was born in Ralston, Nebraska of Alice and Don Shooter. John left Nebraska to start his career as a landscape contractor in both California and Texas. He founded several well- known and successful companies, such as, Shooter and Lindsey in Katy, Texas; which is still in business today. Shooter and Butts also in Texas. In California he had three other companies, A&J Landscape, John J. Shooter, Inc. and Shooter and Butts, each equally as successful. In the Bay Area, where he resided most of his life, he was responsible for making that area even more beautiful with projects such as city parks, golf courses and large community business parks; one being the famous Levi Plaza in San Francisco. As a hobby, he enjoyed building homes.
John was truly a special and amazing man. He was a gentle giant of great talent and integrity; a man whose heart and soul were as pure as solid gold. His word was his bond, trustworthy and honest to the core. He loved to travel. He and his wife vacationed all over the world. It was so much pleasure for them both.
John is survived by his loving wife, Lois Champagne Shooter, daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Steve Friedman, a son, John Jay Shooter, four grandchildren, sister Joan and her husband Walt Neller, brothers, Arthur and his wife, Marilyn, Don and his wife, Ruth; brother, Neil Shooter, brother-in-law, Bill Sherbert and wife, Fidelis; also numerous nieces and nephews.
John will always be loved and missed by all who had the privilege to know him and to witness his wonderful, warm, radiant smile and good nature. Go with God and rest in Heaven sweet, wonderful John. We dearly, dearly love you and miss you more than you will ever know.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014 at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 State Highway 64 West, Tyler; with Dr. David Dykes officiating. Remembrances to celebrate John’s wonderful and gifted life will be given by Bill Sherbert, Steve Friedman and Neil Shooter. Interment will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
