Joan Dykes Rushing Crawford, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 19, 2022 in Knoxville Tennessee at the age of 93. She was born on Tuesday, February 12, 1929 in Magnolia, Mississippi.
Joanie, as she liked to be called, met and married Otis Rushing in the early 50’s. They then moved to Jackson Mississippi where she and Otis began their family and careers. Otis was tragically killed in 1969 in an airplane crash. After his death, she met and married Forrest Crawford. Joanie worked as a dental assistant for 20 years in Jackson. After retirement they moved to Dialville where they joined Rocky Springs Missionary Baptist Church. After Forrest passed in 2008, Joanie continued to live in Dialville for around 6 years before moving in with her children who live in Houston and Tennessee. She loved being with her family, traveling and camping. Joanie was loved dearly by her family and friends and will truly be missed.
Joanie is survived by loving children, Danny (Debbie) Rushing and Donna (Tim) Jennings; brother, Lynn (Margaret) Dykes; sisters-in-law, Julia Dykes, Ruby Dykes and Inez Brown; 7 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren (with one due in December) and 1 Great Great Grandchild (with one due in January).
Joanie is preceded in death by her mother and father, Lynnie and Moland Dykes; her late husband(s), Otis Rushing and Forrest Crawford; brothers, Moland Dykes Jr, Larry Dykes, Randy Dykes and Doyle Dykes; and Great Grandson, McKinley Rushing.
A time of visitation for Joanie will occur on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 2:00 pm, followed by her celebration of life beginning at 3:00 pm at the Rocky Springs Missionary Church in Jacksonville, Texas. Burial will follow at the Rocky Springs Cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Shane Dees, Michael Dees, Derrick Sloan, Kyler Sloan, Kaden Sloan, Nathaniel Rushing, Christian Rushing; and honorary pallbearer, Kason Peeples.
