One of his proudest achievements was serving his country in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He retired in 1993 with 38 years of service with the Texas Public Schools, serving in the Tyler, Hawkins, Grapevine, Big Sandy, Canton, Forney and Lindale school systems. He was a teacher, coach and administrator. His greatest joy was touching the lives of the young people he came in contact with.
He was an alumnus of Kilgore High School, Kilgore College, Southern Arkansas University and Texas A&M University - Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert E. and Ruby Beck Woodson; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jack D. and Carolyn Allen Woodson.
Survivors are his wife, Orza "Dugie" Williams Woodson of Chandler; son and wife, Jay R. and Judy Rommell Woodson of Chandler; daughter, Stacy Woodson Camarata of Mesquite; his sister and her husband, Mary Helen Woodson and C.D. Pace of Noble, Oklahoma.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Katrina and Jacob Webb of Conneaut, Ohio, Roger Woodson of Chandler, Darran Woodson of Minot, North Dakota, Justin Smith of Mesquite, and Bobby Olson of Tyler; great-grandchildren, Ava, Mason and Julianna Webb; plus many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers escorting him will be former athletes.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Friday, December 5, 2014 at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 State Highway 64 West, Tyler.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Carpenter's Cross Baptist Church, 18110 FM 344 W, Flint, TX 75762.
Interment will be in Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
