James “Jim” Allen Johnson, age 67, of Tyler, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior in the mid-evening hours of Tuesday, April 30, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on October 16, 1945 in Inglewood, California to Harry Lawrence, Jr. and Marjorie Spencer Johnson; they preceded him in death. Following college, Jim started his career in business and never looked back, having owned and operated several businesses throughout his life. Some might call Jim a self-made man. While in California, Jim was a member of the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, where he was able to pursue his passion for sailing. Many weekends were spent with his children sailing to Catalina Island and spending the hours with his children and the open sea. Jim married Dana Lynne Smith at the South Coast Community Church in Irvine, California on January 31, 1987 and together they have enjoyed more than 26 years as best friends.
Jim was a passionate man. He loved his Lord, his family, living life, and pursuing enduring relationships that have lasted throughout his life. He loved to be a mentor to men and was seen as a father figure to many. Through Jim’s diligence and love of the Lord and scripture, the Thursday Morning Group was created and fostered into a thriving group of men who have bonded through scripture and prayer. A true constant in Jim’s life was his love of the Lord. He and Dana spent one hour every morning reading scripture and praying. Jim’s love for his family was also important to him. He made it a point to be in the lives of his beloved grandchildren spending time individually doing the things they loved, hosting “Pop’s Sailing School”, and teaching them what it meant to walk in the footsteps of their Father. Jim had a heart of gold, a smile to light up a room, and a love for people.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Dana; children, Stacey Pero, Eric Johnson and wife Michelle, Angie McCauley and husband Ron, and Ken Posey; grandchildren, Joshua LoCicero, Tanner Johnson, Daniel Case, Abby McCauley, Alex McCauley, Evan McCauley, and Piper Posey; brother, Don Johnson; and by a host of cousins and other relatives and very special friends.
Services for James “Jim” Allen Johnson will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 6, 2013 at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Henry Dennard officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery with Ken Posey, Alex McCauley, Darrell Jensen, Wayne Gifford, Jeff Morris, and Jim Masten serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Johnson, Tanner Johnson, Joshua LoCicero, Daniel Case, Henry Dennard, Scott Harris, Milton Vanderpool, and Elwood Stetson. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 P.M., Sunday evening, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the Hospice of East Texas or to the Salvation Army.
