

James was in the 15th and 8th AF, enlisted in Korea, on many Wing Staffs-Squadron Commander, and was special weapons program instructor. James was active in the local VFW; favorite expression was "God, Family, and Country". He was a long time Tylerite of more than 40 years and ended a career with the Department of Agriculture Rural Electrification Administration. Jim was proud that he was made Honorary Texan by Lyndon B. Johnson for State Services. James had passion for Boy Scouting and was Scout leader of local Troup 2, and 342 in Bowie, Maryland. He served the Episcopal Church Archdiocese, Vestry-Trustee, and was Sunday school superintendent. James supported many civic and academic projects fundraising to build gymnasiums and dormitories for Rice University, Houston. James is the descendant of John Alden of the Mayflower. James' wife, Loretta, of more than 50 years, passed away New Year's Eve 2013.
James is survived by his sister, Gail Conay; and his children, Craig Alden, Elisabeth Skipper, Mark Alden, Curtis Alden, Jenifer Alden, Susanne Alden, and Melanie Soto.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler with Pastor Alley Burton presiding.
