Harold Loyd Smith of Tyler, age 79, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017. He was born on July 25, 1938, to Albert Marshall Smith and Macie Robinson Smith, in Montalba. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, from 6-8pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Services will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, 10:00am at Lloyd James Funeral Home, with Dr. Ron Herring officiating. Interment will be in Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Smith graduated from Palestine High School in 1956. He was a member of the Army National Guard, 49th Armored Division in 1956. In 1961, he was called to active duty to Fort Polk, Louisiana, Company C, 3rd , ARB-144th , Armor Rifle Battalion Infantry Division. Harold was employed by General Electric/Trane in Tyler for 59 ½ years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Harold was active in IUE-CAW Union, M-M Sunday School Class and he also enjoyed woodworking and cattle ranching.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart of 60 years, Janice Evans Smith, his daughter, Terri Cowart and her husband Jerry of Brandon, Mississippi, Carl Loyd Smith of Frankston, and his Eveline Smith McCuan and husband Bill of Midland. Harold is also survived by his grandchildren, Morgan Cruse and husband Bill of Picayune, Mississippi, Audrey Johnson and husband Dwayne of Brandon, Mississippi, Logan Allen Cowart of Brandon, Mississippi, Matthew Allen Morrow and fiancé Caylee of Tyler, and five great-grandchildren, Liam Cruse and Macie Ann Cruse, Victor Cruse, Ian Johnson, and Kayla Johnson. His step-brother, Thom Henry and wife Carol of Hurst, his step-sister, Mary Henry Smith of Frankston, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Ilo Smith, his daughter, Cheryl Smith Morrow and husband Bobby, and his brother Marshal James Smith, his brother-in-law, Thomas Gilbert Evans of Nacogdoches.
Pallbearers will be Logan Cowart, Matthew Morrow, Dwayne Johnson, Beau Smith, Justin Northcutt, and Chad Brunner.
Memorials may be made in memory of Harold, to the building fund of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 13590 Texas Hwy. 110, Tyler, Texas 75707.
