Geraldine "Gerry" Herring was born in Cherokee County on May 1, 1921, and slipped away peacefully to meet her Savior and the hosts of saints waiting for her on November 17, 2014. She was one of seven children born to Hugh and Effie Hensley. She married Buford Herring on April 27, 1942.
Funeral services will be held at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Bro. Kim Beckham officiating. The memorial service will be on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 10 a.m. with graveside services in Tyler Memorial Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Buford Herring; her parents, Hugh and Effie Hensley, of Flint; brothers, Talbert, Newburn and Earl Hensley; sisters, Gertie Utsey, Donna Whitten, Nannie Marler; and granddaughter, Holly Gayle Herring Bonner.
Mrs. Herring lived through difficult times after her husband was permanently disabled in 1958. She became the sole breadwinner, working as a nurse at Medical Center (East Texas) Hospital for more than 30 years. She and her husband were known for their garden - always sharing their vegetables, peaches and figs with others. They were active and faithful to our Lord and to Central Baptist Church, where she taught a Sunday school class for many years. She was always interested in helping others. She loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud of them.
She is survived by sons, Ty and wife Sue, from Waco, Wayne and wife Elaine, from Pittsburg; as well as her grandchildren, Duane and Robbin Herring and their children, Hope and Hudson, of Whitehouse, John and Holly Herring and children, Sierra and William, of LaGrange, Kentucky, Scott and Karri Herring and children, Preston, MaKenzi and Tyler, of Waco, and Jena and Russell Mann and children, Austin, Joseph, John David and Katie, of Waco; grandson-in-law, Jason Bonner and children, Trenton and Morgan, of Texarkana; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the health care workers and staff members at Lakeshore Village in Waco and Blue Bonnet Hospice for their professional, tender care.
In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts may be given to your favorite charity.
