Karl Douglas “Doug” Scroggins, 73, of Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, in his hometown. Born in Tyler in 1952 to Ken and Earl Deane Scroggins, Doug was a proud East Texan who lived life with heart, humor, and a deep devotion to his family and friends.
Doug’s life was full of hard work and varied experiences. He served as a guard at the penitentiary in Huntsville, owned and operated a car dealership in Whitehouse, and later worked as an operator at the Delek refinery in Tyler. No matter what role he took on, Doug brought a strong work ethic and a deep sense of responsibility to those around him.
A man of many interests, Doug loved the outdoors—fishing and hunting were among his favorite pastimes. But above all, he found the greatest joy simply being with his loved ones. Whether gathered around a table, out on the lake, or relaxing in the backyard, Doug’s presence made every moment feel bigger, warmer, and full of laughter.
Doug had a bold and colorful personality—fiercely protective, endlessly generous, and always ready to lend a hand or share a story. He took pride in caring for those he loved, and his generosity extended far beyond his immediate family.
He is survived by his sons, Charlie Scroggins (wife Jennifer) and Chris Scroggins; and his beloved granddaughter, Elle Scroggins. He is also survived by his cousins, Darlene Sterzenback and Johnny Ellis. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Earl Deane Scroggins, and his brother, Kenneth Scroggins.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held out at the lake after the service, where family and friends will gather to remember a man whose presence was as big as his heart. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Doug’s legacy by spending time with those you love, casting a line in your favorite fishing hole, or lending a helping hand to someone in need—just as he always did.
