Doug was born on September 22, 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas to Daisy Glenn Canfield and Douglas Allen Cardwell Sr. He graduated from Carlisle High School, Price, TX. In his younger years, Doug was an avid bull rider and welder. As the years passed, he eventually hung up his rope and spurs, but continued his profession in welding. Along with his family, Doug traveled all over the vast wonders of the United States and made many lifelong friends. Eventually they settled back to Palestine TX and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the country.
Being the cowboy he was, Doug enjoyed everything about being country, from the old western movies, and rodeos, to his infamous trench coat, belt buckle and cowboy hat.
He was preceded in death by his mother Daisy Glenn Bryant and husband Claude, father Douglas Cardwell Sr. and wife Doris, grandparents William Wayne and Verna Elizabeth Cardwell, and John and Jessie Canfield.
Doug was a caring man and loved to cheer people up with his jokes and stories. He will greatly be missed by not only his friends but his loving wife, Peggy Cardwell; children Andrew Rutherford and wife Tayler, Bobby Batey, Brandee Arnold, Jennifer Kappel and husband Brian, and Jessica DeZelle and husband John; grandchildren Hailey Arnold, Isabella Droddy, Alex and Somer Langley, Catherine and Brock Kappel, and Jeremy DeZelle; sister Glenna Searcy, and Elizabeth Carr; niece Misty Weathers and husband Richard, and nephew Steven Searcy and wife Mandy and many great nieces and nephews.
