Dottie was an RN and passionate about helping her community through medicine. She worked in many areas of the Hospital throughout her career, but she felt at home in the operating room. Dottie was an art lover and avid painter. She won multiple awards at local competitions throughout her life. She was also an active member at First Presbyterian Church in Tyler, where she attended the Women's Weekly Bible Study, was in the Greeter’s Ministry, and served as a Deacon and Elder. Dottie was the recipient of the honorary life membership from Presbyterian Women and a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 70 years. During that time, she served as a Worthy Matron and Deputy Grand Matron. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and played at least 2 times a month over the last decade.
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ralph Buie; parents, Ben and Lemmie Hood; brother, B.F. Hood; and stepson, Ralph Crawford Buie.
