After 86 years, doting husband and loving father Donnie Jack Hatcher went to meet his beloved Lord and Savior on December 9, 2019 in Lindale, TX. He was born in High Island, TX on January 3, 1933. He was the youngest of three born to James Leonard Hatcher and Gladys Madeline Hatcher. He was a long-time resident of Beaumont, TX until he moved to Lindale in 1993. He married Wanda Ashmore in October of 1961. They raised two beautiful daughters Susan and Madeline.
Don was quite the Renaissance man and a jack of all trades. He worked in the oil fields, busted broncs in rodeos, and enjoyed hunting and fishing and a little bit of golf. He knew at least a little something about every subject and could carry on a conversation with anyone about most topics. He was phenomenal about having the ability to compute huge numbers in his head. When we would call to let him know we were on our way home, he would ask, “What mile marker are you near?” because he would immediately know exactly where you were. Don would also run the vacuum when needed, cook breakfast every morning, and made the best barbeque, gumbo, potato salad, and chicken and dumplings. He enjoyed bringing the love of his life coffee every morning that he could. Most importantly, he was the spiritual leader of his family. His faith and his family’s faith were most important in his life. He was a shining example of Christ’s love with kindness, humility, patience, and unending forgiveness. His response when asked how he was doing was “better than I deserve”. He owned Beaumont Sprinkler, a sprinkler system installation company, as well as Lakewood Supply, a plumbing supply company in Lindale. Don Jack was a great man, a stand-up man, a sweet man, and a man of great faith who will be missed more than words are able to express.
Don Jack is survived by his wife, Wanda Hatcher of Lindale, Texas, daughters Susan Hatcher of Lindale, Madeline and her husband Evan Saltzman of Mansfield, Texas, grandchildren Jordan and Kendall Wilkinson of Lindale, Texas, Morgan and Lauren Saltzman of Denton, TX and Madeline Kailyn Saltzman of Mansfield, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on December 21, 2019 at 10am in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Lindale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Builders Class Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church-Lindale, 402 W. Hubbard Street, Lindale, TX 75771.
