Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 and service at 2.p.m.at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler with Rev. Ken Golden and Rev. Jerry Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
He was born Jan 1, 1946 in Center to E.G. (Dock) Rhame and Avis Blount Rhame and was raised in Jefferson.
Scott was an accomplished Band Director in Rusk County. Scott was one of the most outstanding band directors in the state of Texas. His bands at Carlisle High School were awarded the title of Honor Band three times consecutively…a feat that has gone unmatched. His bands received recognition in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series, and his students won multiple chairs in the All-State Bands. He was a staple at the SFA band camps for decades as percussion instructor and also taught at UT Tyler. He was one of the 2010 Distinguished Alumni at UT Tyler, inducted into the American Band Instrument Service Hall of Fame in 2015, and into the Phi Beta Mu Hall of Fame in 2019. After retiring from directing he went to work as a roadman and clinician for American Band Instrument Service, all while performing actively on guitar.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nell Cornett.
Scott is survived by his wife Gloria Golden Rhame: his sons Steven of Gilmer, and Christopher and wife Shay of Whitehouse; his daughter Denise Carpenter and husband Corey of Sachse; his brother Glynn Rhame of Woodlands; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
His pallbearers will be his six nephews, Emilio Ramirez, Phillip Kirkendoll and Ransom Rhame.
