Tuesday, November 22,2011, at Christ Episcopal Church, Tyler, Texas under the
direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home with The Reverend M. L. Agnew and The
Reverend David Luckenbach officiating. Family visitation will be held at the church
following the memorial service.
Mrs. Walker died peacefully on November 16, 2011 sheltered in the arms of
God. She loved the song, "Because He Lives I can face tomorrow; Because He Lives
all fear is gone, Because I know He holds the future, and life is worth the living just
because He Lives."
Mrs. Walker was born in Tool, Texas on December 30, 1922. She graduated
from Mabank High School in 1940 as Valedictorian of her class and was a varsity
cheerleader. She then moved to Tyler and attended Federal Institute after which she
worked for B. G. Byars and Humble Oil & Refining where she met the love of her life,
Jimmy Walker. They were married September 25, 1949.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. G. Walker, Jr. in 1986, two brothers
and one sister. She is survived by sons, Scott H. Walker and wife, Karen, Gary M.
Walker and wife, Melinda, all of Houston, Texas, stepson, Kelly W. Walker and wife,
Jan, and brother, Joe Humphries, all of Tyler, Texas. Mrs. Walker was also blessed with
nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with numerous nephews and
meces.
The family would particularly like to recognize and thank Glenda J. Walker for
her years of service to Curtis Walker and the Walker family.
Very special thanks from the Walker family to the staff of Parkway Place,
Houston, and Life Enhancers Caregivers, Houston, for the excellent care and comfort
they provided to Curtis Walker.
Mrs. Walker was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where she was a past
member of the Altar Guild, Treasurer of Episcopal Church Women for 9 years, and a
member of the Lois Guild. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a charter
member of Quairo Literary Club, and member of The Festival Garden Club and
Willowbrook Country Club.
