Carolyn Louise Shaw died peacefully on November 17, 2023. Ms. Shaw was born on September 25, 1944 in New Orleans, La. She was preceded in death by both parents, Donald J. Shaw and Marie Louise Shaw, former residents of Tyler, TX, and two brothers, Donald J Shaw Jr. and James Alvah Shaw. She is survived by her brother, Michael Ryan Shaw and his wife, Patricia, of The Woodlands, TX. and her four nieces, Kelcie C. Shaw, Allison Shaw, Virginia Shaw and Katherine Elaine Shaw-Shack.
Carolyn worked for Amoco as a Geotech for many years in Houston. After returning to Tyler, she loved teaching art and crafts to young children for many years and later assisted in the library at Hubbard Jr. High. Carolyn was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. She loved Jesus Christ with all her heart; she prayed the rosary daily and prayed for her friends and family constantly. Carolyn moved to Tyler in 1960 and it was her great honor to have served as the Tyler Rose Queen in 1964, a role she cherished her entire life. She was also an active member of the Tyler Junior League for many years and a member of Hollytree Country Club. Carolyn loved her cats, all of which were named Taylor, and tending to her garden and house plants, including an enormous plumeria tree that she nurtured from a cutting from Hawaii and that still lives today.
The family extends it heartfelt thanks to Deborah Bosworth Robertson, Blake Stowe and Don Beasley for all of the love and assistance they gave to Carolyn. Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Kelcie Shaw Fund in memory of Carolyn Shaw at the Brookwood Community in Brookshire, TX.
