Carl A. Slusher, Sr., age 76, of Tyler, formerly of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, passed away in the mid afternoon hours of Thursday, November 3, 2011 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. He was born on August 21, 1935 in Ft. Wayne to Wiley and Elinor Jane Folwer Slusher; they preceded him in death. After high school he proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict, and attained the rank of Private 2nd Class. Carl worked his life as a trucker for Graves Trucking, Towne Air Freight, and finally retired as an independent owner/operator. He married Mary Louise Place in 1992 and together they spent the next 18 years living a lifetime of memories and raising a family. Carl was a member of the American Legion in Tyler, the HOBO CB club of Ft. Wayne, IN, and the East Lake Baptist Church in Teaselville, TX.
Carl is survived by his wife Mary; son Carl Arthur Slusher, Jr. of Ft. Wayne, IN; sister, Shirley Eileen Price of Bullard; step-son, Lawrence Jay Reed of Cincinnati, OH; grandson, Cameron Slusher of Ft. Wayne, IN; step-children, Jerry Wylds, and wife Karen,
and Ronald Wylds, and wife Linda; and by numerous other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Lena Sprayberry Slusher; brother, Robert Hartman Slusher; sister, Verna Ann Troyer; and step-daughter, Linda Wylds.
Funeral services for Mr. Carl Slusher will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 7, 2011 at Tyler Memorial Funeral with Rev. Neal Gray officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Lindenwood Cemetery in Ft. Wayne, IN with Bob Bunn, Dick Byers, Erich East, David Fhalsing, Paul Salas, Ollie Snider, Lonnie Wasson, Jerry Wylds, and Ronny Wylds serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Sunday evening at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.
