Virginia Lee Undhjem, 85, of Twin Falls, Idaho passed away suddenly on Monday, September 25, 2017 at her home in Twin Falls.
Virginia was born on June 24, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of Earl and Grace Frandsen Peterson. She grew up in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Davis High School. She furthered her education at Idaho State University where she earned her Master’s Degree in Physical Education in 1983. Virginia taught school at O’Leary Junior High School for over 38 years. She taught History and P.E. as well as coached girls basketball and track. She was an icon of O’Leary Junior High and taught generations of students. She retired from the Twin Falls School District in 1992.
Virginia’s love was golf. She played almost every day that she could. She was a member of the Twin Falls Golf Club and Canyon Springs Golf Course in Twin Falls. She mastered the game winning several tournaments around the valley for many years including 5 time Idaho State Women’s Golf Champion including 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1988 as well as the Magic Valley Amateur 25 times.
Virginia loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a fierce competitor on the golf course and loved those whom she played with. A great teacher, neighbor and friend. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
Virginia is survived by her three children, Lance (Debra) Undhjem of Litchfield Park, Arizona; Robin (Vern) Brassey of Boise, Idaho and Eric (Kristin) Undhjem of Telluride, Colorado; as well as her sister-in-law, Joyce Peterson of Bountiful, Utah. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Lane Undhjem, Luke Undhjem, Hope Brassey, Erin Brassey and Soren Undhjem. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Peterson.
Funeral services for Virginia will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Twin Falls 5th Ward LDS Church, 421 Maurice Street North, Twin Falls with Bishop Jon Conder conducting. Burial will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Monday at the Bountiful Cemetery in Bountiful, Utah. A gathering for family and friends will take place on Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave. East, Twin Falls.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given in Virginia’s name to the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or can be mailed to American Diabetes Association Idaho Affiliate, 1111 S. Orchard St., Boise, Idaho 83702.
