Bob was born in Glendale, California in 1942. He entered the Army after graduating high school. After sustaining a serious injury, Bob received an honorable medical discharge from service. At the age of 24 he met and married the love of his life, Barbara DeAlba. In 1977 Bob and Barbara moved their family from California to Buhl, Idaho. There Bob became a Deputy Sheriff for Twin Falls County. He was shot in the line of duty in 1983 receiving the Medal of Valor. After a grueling recovery process, he returned to active duty until his retirement in 2001. Bob’s life continued to circle around family and faith. Proudly holding a position in his local chapter of Knights of Columbus. His favorite time was spent with his loving wife by his side.
Over the years Bob’s family had grown to 5 children. Mary (Mark Melni), Tina, Monique (Eric Rehn), Vincent (Jackie), and Angelina. At the time of his death, Bob also held the proud title of “More PaPa” given by his 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Donovan and Velma Gauthier, his sister Cheri Smith and grandson Jayce.
A Vigil (Rosary) will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Buhl, Idaho at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 with funeral mass following at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Magic Valley Veteran’s Cemetery in Hansen, Idaho.
