TWIN FALLS • On Feb. 2, 2018, Pearl Babbel Schenk, 91, of Twin Falls, returned home to the loving arms of her Savior and her beloved heavenly family. She passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center of natural causes surrounded by family.
Pearl was born February 11, 1926, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Frederick August and Lena Lamprecht Babbel. She was the eighth of nine children. She loved growing up in Twin Falls and talked frequently of her memories. One that she shared later in life was that as a teenager she used to babysit Dallin H. Oaks. She said he was “a good boy”. She instilled in her family a deep love for their rich heritage and an understanding of the importance of family. Pearl attended High School in Twin Falls, and later attended and graduated from BYU with a degree in English and a minor in Theater.
Pearl married her sweetheart, Wendell Lyman Schenk, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 2, 1948. They are the loving parents of 11 children. Pearl was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life serving where ever she was called. She had a strong and abiding testimony of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In 1993 Pearl and Wendell served a mission together in the Georgia Atlanta North Mission.
Pearl is survived by her children, Norman (Claudia) Schenk of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Renae (Rodger) McDonald of Rocklin, Calif., Jenene Eggleston of Idaho Falls, Lynda (Denny) Christensen of Ririe, Idaho, Paul (Robin) Schenk of Twin Falls, Roger (Maura) Schenk of Twin Falls, Susan (Scott) Pickup of Heyburn, Idaho, Vicki (Reed) Ellsworth of Lindon, Utah, Alan (Patrice) Schenk of Pleasant View, Utah, Trudy (Marc) Hauver of Lehi, Utah, and Torye Schenk of St. George, Utah; as well as 53 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
She is fondly remembered for her peaceful character and love of her family. She was a friend to all and could always be found giving service. Pearl enjoyed playing games, reading, sewing, and swimming. However, despite her various interests, she felt her greatest blessing was being surrounded by family. As her family, we feel she was one of our greatest blessings. We love her and will greatly miss her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Schenk, parents, and all of her brothers and sisters.
The funeral for Pearl will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Twin Falls 17th Ward LDS Chapel, 2680 Elizabeth Blvd. in Twin Falls, with Bishop Scott Rasmussen conducting. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park. A viewing will be held for family and friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Services are under the direction of Trent Stimpson and the staff at White Mortuary “Chapel by the Park.” Condolences may be left for the family by visiting www.whitemortuary.com.
