How do we describe the life of Joe Herron? While Joe spent many years battling difficult and unusual health problems, he did not let these challenges define who he was as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Joe and Teresa would have been married 43 years on the 30th of this month. He was a family man who loved Teresa and his girls deeply. When the grandkids came along, he was just as loving and protective over them. Joe's love and influence reached beyond his immediate family; he enjoyed coaching baseball and softball and spending time at the ballpark with many youth in the community. Later in life, Joe discovered his love for racing, cars, music, and let's not forget how much he loved his little dogs over the years!
Thirteen years ago, Joe was diagnosed with P.O.E.M.S disease which would cause a major decline in his health. After undergoing extensive treatments for his P.O.E.M.S, he was diagnosed with cancer in April 2023. Joe promised he would not give in to the disease, that he would fight as long as he possibly could, and he did just that.
Cancer claims the lives of so many people. Some people describe cancer patients as victims of this terrible disease. Joe Herron was not a victim; he was a fighter. He fought this disease until his very last breath, always believing that he would be healed. In the end, he was healed completely. To us, he was never a victim; he was a warrior.
Until we see you in heaven, we will love you on earth. Pallbearers will be Morgan Toxey, Dewayne Herron, James Herron, Justin Herron, Dempsey Hubbard, and Joey Morrison. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. McEntyre and Amy Wyatt at North River Primary Care, Dr. James Evans and Oncology Staff at Cancer Treatment Center, LTACH Unit 4th floor Noland Hospital Staff, MICU 1st Floor DCH staff, and Daniel Greenlee.
