Thomas "Tom" Anthony Hewett Sr.

NORTHPORT – Thomas Anthony ""Tom"" Hewitt, Sr. age 74, of Northport, Ala., died August 6, 2017, at Hospice of West Alabama. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Church of the Highlands in Tuscaloosa with Pastor Chad Sleeper and Rev. George Pritchett officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glynn Peyton Hewett, Sr. and Elizabeth Anthony Hewett.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Lake Hewett of Northport, Ala.; daughter, Marjorie Hewett Green (David) of Birmingham, Ala.; sons, Bradley Charles Hewett (Jennifer) of Tampa, Fla. and Thomas Anthony ""Todd"" Hewett, Jr. (Teresa) of Franklin, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Carson Hewett Mimms (Chris), Hannah Hewett, Sarah Peyton Green, Jackson Hewett, Mallie Green, Christian Hewett and Hudson Green.

Tom was born in Tuscaloosa in 1942. While attending Tuscaloosa High School, he participated in football, baseball, basketball and track. He attended the University of Alabama, School of Business. He married his high school sweetheart, Rita, in 1963.

Tom retired after working 40 years in the insurance industry. His passions were his family, his Bible study group and Alabama football.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center or Hospice of West Alabama.
