She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnson Elliott; parents Paul and Margaret Howard.
Survivors include her sister, Paula Moore of Gainesville, Ga; son, Andy Elliott and his wife Julie of Mooresville, N.C.; and her daughter, Leslie Almond and husband Kevin of Northport, Ala.; grandchildren, Daniel Almond and his wife, McKenzie; Katherine Almond; Joshua Elliott and his wife Laura; Jordan Elliott; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Deacon Almond; niece Holly Moore, nephew Jeffrey Moore and his wife Kellie.
Shirley was born in Asheville, N.C. and raised in Gainesville, Ga. She met the love of her life at North Georgia College and married soon after. During their 62 years of marriage, they were active members of First Baptist Church of Decatur, Ala.; Roswell Street Baptist Church of Marietta, Ga. and later Blackshear Place Baptist Church of Flowery Branch, Ga. She lived a Godly life exhibiting love, caring for others and with great moral character – that legacy lives on in all that knew her.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially cooking for them on Holiday gatherings. Playing bridge, traveling with lifelong friends Ann and Ray Kight, reading and attending community Bible studies gave her great pleasure.
A memorial service led by Dr. Gil McKee will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 1st, 2018 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, Ala. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
