Shelby Dean Darnell Brown passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Nathan Brown, her father Douglas D. Darnell, mother Amy Jeanette Darnell, and 2 sisters, Barbara Jean Bell and Peggy Joyce Ingram. She is survived by her brother Jimmy Darnell, three children Gil Brown (Janice), Renee Bates and Amy Hodges (Luke); 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Tennyson (Aaron), Taylor Brown (Staci), Braeden Brown, Tyler Bates (Chelsea), Randi Martin (Billy), Shelby Cate Hodges, Lucian “Lukas” Hodges; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
For many years Mrs. Brown enjoyed owning and operating Gee Whiz and being known as “The Hello Kitty Lady.” She was a long time member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, her dog “Max”, watching Alabama Football and the Atlanta Braves baseball. Her family was her pride and joy.
A visitation for Mrs. Brown will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 6-8pm at Memory Chapel of Tuscaloosa. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 10am from the funeral home Chapel with Reverend Jim Headley and Dr. Curtis Kelley officiating. Private graveside services will be from Memory Hill Gardens. Services are under the direction of Memory Chapel of Tuscaloosa, a Dignity Memorial provider.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Aaron Tennyson, Taylor Brown, Braeden Brown, Tyler Bates, Billy Martin and Lukas Hodges. The family wishes to recognize Dr. Ross Vaughn, Mr. Ronnie Shuttlesworth, Greg and Susan Hamrick, all the caregivers and residents at Hamrick Highlands, past and present members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and Helping Hands Ministry at Taylorville Baptist Church as Honorary Pallbearers.
