Ruth "Marie" Rice

Ruth "Marie" Everett Rice, age 85, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Hospice of West Alabama. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Memory Hill Gardens with Tony Mahathy officiating.

Marie is preceded in death by her mother, Edna Elizabeth Johnson Everett; father, Charles Herbert Everett; husband, Robert Milton Rice; stepmother, Alice Everett; sister, Linda Newman.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee Rice Ledbetter (Shane); sisters, Retha Griffin, Darlene Lancaster; brothers, Charles "Bill" Everett, David Everett, Robert Everett; grandchildren, Brenna Ledbetter, Mary Brandon Ledbetter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie was born in 1939 to Charles and Edna Elizabeth Everett. After the death of her birth mother, her father remarried. His wife, Alice Everett, raised Marie as her own daughter. She grew up in Tuscaloosa and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School. After graduation, she worked at the local paper mill where she would meet her future husband, Milton Rice. She would later leave the paper mill and pursue jobs with several different companies in Tuscaloosa before she would eventually begin a long career as part of the staff of the Tuscaloosa County Tax office. She would later retire and enjoy traveling with her friends and sisters. She also enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Renee, son-in-law Shane and her granddaughters, Brenna and Mary Brandon Ledbetter. She will be missed by all who knew her, but we know that she is rejoicing in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
