Roscoe was intensely patriotic, and proud to be an American. He left high school and joined the US Navy in the spring of 1945, and in time, to deploy during the closing months of WWII. Upon returning home he finished high school before moving forward with his life.
Roscoe was a faithful member of the Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church where he served for many years in countless ways. He taught Sunday school, served as a Deacon, and worked in outreach. He was a warm-hearted greeter and encourager to both long-tenured and newly involved members. He loved his Pastor and supported him with his prayers, presence, and influence. His beloved church family was family to him in every way.
Roscoe was active for many years in amateur athletics where he became well-known first for his own abilities, and later as he coached and managed men's softball. He was a member of the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame and the Alabama State Softball Hall of Fame. He was retired from BF Goodrich and well respected by all who knew, competed with, and worked with him. He was an avid fan and life-long supporter of all divisions of Crimson Tide athletics.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and step grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Skyland Blvd. Baptist Church, BF Goodrich retirees and employees, and all former softball players.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Building Fund of Skyland Blvd. Baptist Church.
